The successful completion of the GETA Project (Green Energy Transition Actions), marked by the final meeting in Sarajevo held on October 29th, 2024, celebrates a pivotal achievement in the Western Balkans’ journey towards sustainable energy. Over the past 24 months, GETA has addressed energy poverty and empowered vulnerable rural youth by equipping them with practical skills to thrive in a greener, more resilient future.
With the support of the European Union and the Erasmus+ program, this initiative has focused on addressing the unique challenges faced by rural communities in the energy transition. Rural youth from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania, and other Western Balkan countries participated in hands-on training, capacity-building workshops, and collaborative learning sessions designed to foster sustainable energy solutions in their communities.
The project was implemented by a dynamic consortium of European and regional partners, including LIFE Academy (Sweden), the Università Politecnica delle Marche (Italy), the Environmental and Territorial Management Institute – ETMI (Albania), the Regional Education and Information Centre – REIC (Bosnia and Herzegovina), and the Municipality of Kavaje (Albania). Each partner contributed specialized knowledge and expertise, ensuring that the project addressed local needs while adhering to global sustainability standards.
The GETA project has demonstrated that with the right resources and training, rural youth can play a vital role in their region’s energy transition. By fostering practical skills in renewable energy and energy efficiency, GETA not only helped alleviate energy poverty but also contributed to a more sustainable, low-carbon future for the Western Balkans.
As we celebrate this achievement, we extend our gratitude to the EU for co-funding this impactful project and to all partners and participants for their dedication to building a sustainable future.
